Water System Centralization & Modernization Project

Town Staff, our engineering firms, and personnel from MDE met virtually on November 15th. There were two reasons for the meeting, with the first being the technical review of the 95% complete water treatment plants construction plans. MDE was satisfied with the plans, and we should be moving into the bid phase for the water treatment plant construction in the next month or so. The second reason for the meeting was to receive guidance from MDE financial staff as we move into submitting bid packages to MDE for their approval. We did receive valuable information on all the necessary forms and documents to submit and how to ensure the process goes smoothly. We also informed MDE on the new estimated cost of the project, and that the Town will be seeking additional financial assistance through the same application process we made two years ago. MDE agreed that would be the correct path to follow, and that additional financial assistance may be possible. The third of the six contracts necessary to complete this project, pipeline construction, is currently out for bid. The response from contractors seeking copies of the RFB has been very good. Bids are due on January 9, 2025 and we hope to have our recommendation for the contract on the February Council Meeting agenda.
